The cremation will usually occur shortly after the service and should be on the same day as the service.
All Christian denominations (including Roman Catholics), Sikhs, Hindus, Parsees and Buddhists allow cremation, but it is forbidden by Orthodox Jews and Muslims.
If you want to see the coffin go into the cremator, this can be arranged – please let your Funeral Director know when agreeing the arrangements with them.

How does the cremation process work?
All crematoria must work to the Code of Cremation Practice.
The coffin must be placed in the cremator in exactly the same condition as it was received by us. The coffin, fittings and furnishings must be suitable for cremation and the impact on the environment must also be considered. Any items in the coffin for presentation or viewing purposes will be removed by the Funeral Director before the coffin comes to us. It is not possible for floral tributes to be included with the coffin for cremation.
It is recommended that all items of jewellery be removed from the body before the service. It is not possible for us to recover them.
Each cremation is carried out separately, although exceptions may be made e.g. mother and baby, or twin children.
We can only fit one coffin in a cremator at a time and it is completely emptied before the next cremation. The coffin’s name plate is carefully checked by crematorium staff to ensure the correct identity and an identity card will accompany the coffin and ashes through the whole crematorium process.
The ashes are removed, cooled and placed in a special container.
